Churt made the 90 minutes drive over to Horley and were looking for their first points of the calendar year and facing Dorking Reds, who were a little unknown as it was the first fixture between the teams this season.
The game started the way it carried on, very even, and pretty end to end. Both teams having chances but after 9 minutes Churt made a breakthrough, with Amy Thompson down the left passing in to Pheobe Mitchell, who passed to Hannah Watts, who managed to flick the ball into Ella Farrier on the edge of the area. Ella rode one tackle and put the ball into the net. 1-0 Churt!.
Dorking had a couple of good chances, but Tilly Carr was on top form and kept them out with blocks. The Churt defence was also battling well, with Alex Hayward winning all her battles, and Amy O'donnell doing the same.
Then what looked like a foul in the middle of the field, with Phoebe Mitchell being squashed between 3 players, was waved away by the referee and the ball broke into the Churt box where a collision resulted in a penalty for Dorking.
The Dorking player stepped up and took it well, although Tilly got her hand to it and nearly saved it. 1-1.
At half time it was pretty even, but Churt with only 11 players knew they may tire, so needed to go out and get some more goals.
Dorking started the second half better, and got their second on the 49th minute. 2-1 Dorking.
The teams battled on and both had chances. Dorking having one hit the post after last ditch defending from Tilly Carr, Amy O and Tallula Musgrove.
Churt couldnt find the breakthrough, so they went with 3 at the back and moved Amy O'Donnell up front, and Amy Thompson swapped wings with Martha Pittman. Immediately this resulted in some stronger attacks by Churt and on the 74th minute, Lily Jay got the ball forward, and Amy O'Donnell ran in on the keeper and got to the ball first, nicking it past the keeper but running towards the goal line but just wide. However Amy, managed to get there and poke it in. Churt players celebrated as it was a great goal and proved a great decision to change by the coach James Farrier. ! 2-2.
With 5 minus to go Churt stuck with their attacking formation and both teams kept going, but in the end, both teams deserved the draw.
A great and even game, but the first point for Churt this year, so worth celebrating, especially as they had no subs again.
Player of the match could of been anyone, but it was awarded to Alex Hayward for her gritty defensive performance at left back!
