Churt Satellites 2 Meadow Sports 5

Greig Watts3 Nov 2024 - 18:08

A Closely Fought Game Although The Score Didn't Reflect it in the end!

Churt Arrived at the game, having not played for a few weeks and wanting to get some points on the board, against newly promoted, Meadow Sports who had a 100% record.

The game started and before the teams had settled, a long ball over the top, saw the Meadow Sports striker clear through, but Churt defender, Alex Hayward, made a tackle and the referee Awarded a penalty. The Meadow Sports player, stepped up and scored. Churt 0 Meadow Sports 1.

Within 2 minutes, the same move caught Churt again, and this time the Meadow Sports player stole the ball away and scored a second goal.
2-0 Down after 5 minutes.

It looked like it might be a cricket score but Churt settled down and started to control the midfield, putting strong passing moves together and creating a couple of chances, Eventually, they scored their first goal from a great press from Ruby Clarke and Hannah Watts. Ruby winning the ball, and squaring it perfectly to Hannah who was in a better position. Hannah turned and shot the ball home . 1 - 2. After 30 minutes.

Churt then got lucky as although the were on top, Meadow Sports had two long balls over the top, a move that is obviously their signature move, to exploit the pace of their striker, and both times the striker hit the woodwork. So it stayed 1-2 till half time.

Just before half time, Hannah Watts had a kick to the face in the penalty area, but the referee played the advantage and Churt's forward's weren't able to put the ball away, leaving Churt wishing they'd got the penalty!

The second half started the same as the first, a long ball through the Churt defence, and Meadow sports striker put it away, 3-1.

Again, Churt settled and got back on top of the midfield, passing the ball around well and having a few chances of their own. A few corners came to nothing and then one eventually came back to Ruby Clarke in the corner, she cut in and short and managed to get it over the keeper and into the net, and scored a really brilliant goal. 2-3 to Meadow Sports.

Now Churt were dominant, but still Meadow sports threatened with the pace of their striker.

Churt only had 12 players, with 2 keepers, so Jamie Nixon, had to come onto the pitch for 10 mins to give someone a rest!. Again Churt pulled together and gave a great team performance. Emily Watts at the back, commanding and playing with an injury.

Then as Churt took a risk and moved Emily back into the midfield, a gap opened up in the defence and Meadow Sports were through again on 78 minutes, 2-4, against the run of play and Churt's heads dropped for the first time in the game.

The same move happened again on the 80th minute and it ended 2-5 to Meadow Sports.

A scoreline that didnt reflect the Churt teams performance but did show Meadow Sports have a phenomenal striker with pace, which most teams will struggle with.

Eva Jenkins did play the first 30 minutes of the game, for her debut, and Sophie Allen gave another strong performance with only her second game for Churt. Alot of strong team performances, but Ella Farrier was awarded Churt player of the match for her role in Midfield, where she won alot of the 50/50's and also set the Churt attack up going forward.

It was a feisty game but both teams played out a good game and Meadow Sports came out on top this time and I'm sure will do well this season.

The Satellites will dust themselves off and come back next week with a full squad (apart from the two Long term ACL injuries).
