A Tale of Two Halves

Churt arrived at the fixture, having not won in 2024 after not losing all of their games from the start of the season to the end of 2023.

Before the game there were reports of high winds and the wind definitely had an impact on the game.

The girls were all happy to be playing on a good Astro at Weydon School and they started really well, pinning Richmond Park back and slowly dominating the game more and more.

Hannah Watts hit the post but the ball wouldn't go in, It wasn't going to be another one of those days was it?

Eventually, after 15 minutes, the breakthrough came, when Martha Pittman played a lofted ball straight back over the defence, after receiving it from A Richmond Goal Kick, Hannah knocked it down and Amy O'Donnell smashed it home. 1 - 0 Churt!

Churt continued to create chances and Richmond couldnt get out of their half.

Another goal kick was intercepted by Isobel Kandak. She won the ball at the half way line, and carried it forward, hitting a shot from about 30 yards, into the net. What a shot and what a goal, has to be a goal of the season contender. 2-0 Churt.

On 38 minutes, Churt scored again, after a great move from Ella Farrier getting the ball through to Hannah Watts to score, continuing her scoring record of a goal every game this season. 3 - 0 Churt and a great first half performance.

The second half started and the wind was now behind Richmond and suddenly they were on top and Churt found it hard to get out. An Error at the back, when the ball could have easily been cleared, allowed Richmond through on goal and they scored. 3-1.

Churt continued to try and attack and on the 54th minute, the ball was lost in the midfield and again, Richmond strode forward and scored. 3-2. What a different half!

Some changes were made, and Churt got back some control. Hannah Watts again hitting the post and Ella Farrier hitting a shot at the keeper.

With 3 minutes to go, Richmond attacked again and with the win behind them, there was no stopping their equaliser, so final score 3-3.

Not sure, how Churt didnt win that game, but it was a good and friendly team from two good sides and the two halves couldn't have been more contrasting. Churt playing their best football in the first half, but some individual and team errors, allowing Richmond back in the game, cost the team in the end.
