A pitch inspection at 8am, allowed to game to go ahead.
The teams arrived, knowing each other from previous seasons, but now one Division apart.
Claygate started well, and had most of the ball for the first 5 minutes, but then Churt started to take charge and on the 7th minute, Maisie Lambert received the ball from Alex Hayward. She then beat two players and smashed the ball home. Great goal from Maisie and 1-0 to Churt.
On the 16th minute Churt had their second, this time a short corner from Churt, resulted in another corner, which Ruby and Maisie took quickly, Maisie getting the ball to Ruby, who went round two players and struck the ball home. 2-0 Churt,.
From this point, Churt were very much on top and Claygate, whilst battling hard, certainly let their heads drop.
It was all coming down the left hand side with Churt and the combination between Maisie and Alex, the third goal came on 28 minutes, when again Maisie broke through and got the ball across, Amy O'Donnell swiped the ball home from close range with her left foot. Amy's first game back in 2 months, after a long injury, welcome back Amy! 3-0 Churt.
2 minutes later, Maisie took a corner and under pressure from Hannah Watts at the near post, a Claygate defender headed the ball in their own net . 4-0 and that was the score at half time.
The second half Churt continued to dominate but couldn't put the ball in the net. The Claygate keeper started to have the performance of her life, getting to every short, the defence were clearing the ball. Hannah Watts in particular was unlucky with several ricochets around the area and one shot hitting the post.
Churt being 4-0, tried a few different things with the team, moving Alex up to left midfield and Maisie to left back. After about 20 minutes of the half, Emily Watts moved into midfield and the Churt defence went to three players, Alex, Martha Pittman and Maisie, all playing at centre back for a short while. Jamie Nixon, was in goal for the first half, and at the end of the game came on the pitch to have a run around also, and did well in the middle.
On the 76th minute, eventually Churt struck again, with Ruby Clarke beating a couple of players and then threading the ball through to Hannah, she rounded the keeper and tucked the ball home. 5-0 Churt. The Goalkeeper managed to role her ankle as Hannah went past, so with Claygate down to 10 players and no keeper, the managers agreed to finish the game as the result was obvious. So the game finished a few minutes early at 5-0 to Churt.
A really strong team performance, with a couple of strong players missing. Another clean sheet for both keepers and the defence. Some great play from the midfields and attackers and an easy victory in the end. Through to the next round where Churt will face tough opposition in Teddington.
Maisie Lambert played brilliantly today, so Player of the match for her.
