Churt Satellites moved back to the top of the table, tied with Dorking Red, with a good win over Dorking Blues today.
The Satellites made a great start on 7 minutes when Hannah Watts dribbled into the box under pressure following a pass from Phoebe Mitchell. Great finish with her left foot. The 2nd goal came in the 15th minute with Ella Farrier providing the assist on this occasion. Hannah Watts ran onto the ball and toe poked it into the bottom right hand corner.
Churt were just about the stronger team but the game wasn’t one way traffic and Dorking created a few chances, with Tilly Carr called into making a couple of decent saves in the first half.
The score was 2-0 at half time.
The Satellites were determined to hang onto their lead in the 2nd half. Amy Thompson and Alex Hayward were stopping almost all attacks down the channels and the back 3 of Isobel, Tallula and Tia were dealing effectively with any long balls that came there way.
A goal was almost conceded in the 55th minute. Dorking picked up a loose ball at the edge of the box. Tallula came across to make the tackle..….. Penalty! The Dorking player appeared to fall onto Tallula rather than the other way around so it was an unlucky penalty to give away.
The Dorking player stepped up and shot into the left hand corner. Tilly made a terrific dive, saving the shot…..she then recovered her dive and helped clear the rebound…..the score remained 2-0!
The Satellites perhaps played slightly too defensively in the 2nd half, creating only a couple of further chances. Ella made a solo run in the box in the 60th minute but was tugged back. No penalty. In the 65th minute Maisie won a free kick following a strong run. Ella shot just wide.
Satellites continued to soak up the pressure with the Churt midfield making numerous tackles. They just failed to keep a clean sheet in the final minutes of the game. The ball was only cleared to the edge of the box following a corner and Dorking smashed the ball into the goal from the edge of box.
Final score 2-1 to Churt Satellites
