Churt came into the second game of the league season after their 22-0 win in the cup.
This was their first game ever against Balham, so the teams didn't know what to expect of each other.
When the game started Churt quickly started to dominate but missed a few good chances with every now and then Balham making a break but never really bothering the Churt keeper.
Eventually in the 28th minute, Ruby Clarke won the ball and threaded it through nicely to Hannah Watts, who slotted the ball into the net from the left. 1-0 To Churt.
On the 35th minute, Churt still dominating play, Phoebe Mitchell received the ball from Hannah and went on a wiggling run down the left, beating a couple of players and arriving in the box, she changed her body shape and shot with her right foot, beating the keeper with a brilliant goal. 2-0 to Churt.
The half time whistle was blown, Churt winning 2-0 and pretty comfortably, but the game wasn't won.
The second half, Churt changed back to their usual formation, so the forwards could press more, but in some ways it was a mistake as the midfield battle became harder and Balham had a period where they were on top. Still not alot of action for Tilly who was now in goal, although there were some through balls and corners to defend.
After 50 minutes, Hannah made a run to the left and managed to release a pass across to Ella, just before she was tackled (and flattened), and Ella rounded the keeper and put away Churt's third, 3-0 Churt.
Churt were playing with some injured players, and Amy O'Donnell got a knock to her ankle and also needed to come off, So Amy Thompson went back on to the pitch hoping to shake off her own injury. Emily Watts, who'd had a great game at the centre of defence with Isobel Kandak by her side, also needed to come off, so the defence was now even more make shift, Phoebe at Right back, Amy T in the centre with Isobel, and Alex at left back, but Churt carried on and held out. Jamie Nixon, who played the first half in goal, came on as a Left wing back and midfielder and made some great crunching tackles!
Not only did they hold out, but also their attacking play was sublime.
On the 70th minute, Ella Farrier made a great through ball to Hannah in the penalty area, Hannah was being held by the defender and the keeper, but still managed to use her strength to poke the ball into the net to make it 3-0, the referee playing the advantage well as it could have been a penalty also!
Then again on the 75th minute, Ruby Clarke did some great movement, and threaded the ball to Hannah, who turned at hit the ball into the right corner from 18 yards. Completing her hat-trick and Churt's 5th goal of the game.
The Churt strikers had played against a tough and strong defence, who were also very physical, but the Churt attackers managed to out fox and out physical them and won through.
The game finished 5-0, a clean sheet, a great team performance, Liv Potter played her best game for a long time, mopping up in midfield, the defenders and keepers just wouldn't let Balham pass (or score) and the midfielders and attackers, out manouvered and outfought a strong Balham team. This sort of performance makes the coach's so proud of the team the girls are becoming!
