As it was the last game of the season, Churt's full squad came to the game and it was switched to Churt's Home ground, on the request of the opposition.
Churt needed a win to apply pressure to Beacon Hill for the remaining games, and the Churt players went out and started with a bang. Dominating the play and creating chances, they broke through on the second minute, when Emily Watts won the ball in midfield, run forward and passed the ball through for her sister, Hannah, to run on to and bang Hannah's smacked it into the back of the net, what a finish!
1-0 To Churt.
Churt continued to be on top but Mole Valley did have a threat on the break and almost got through a couple of times, but not getting to finish their chances. After 17 minutes, Churt made 4 substitutions which disrupted the flow a little, but they continued to hold on well throughout the half, creating less chances but also not conceding many. There was a ball looped over the top and Hannah Watts smacked the ball away again, but she was given off side for the previous move, so what maybe should have been 2-0 was unfortunately marked off and the game finished 1-0 at Half time.
More substitutions were made at half time and Churt continued to attack but Mole Valley continued to look dangerous on the break. After about 8 minutes of the second half , Ruby Clarke broke through on goal, and just as she was about to shoot, the ball hit a bobble and changed direction, back to the keeper. The keeper made a big kick up the other end, which ended up in an attack and a shot across goal, saved brilliant by Tilly Carr, onto her far post, the ball rebounded across the goal mouth but still stayed out. Phew!! End to end stuff.
Churt coaches made some changes again as they were starting to lose the midfield battle, and then started to take control of the game again, although still not managing to put their chances away.
Eventually, Churt were awarded a free kick about 25 yards out towards the side of Mole Valley's box. Ella Farrier whipped in a free kick and Hannah Watts got on the end of it, boom, she looped the header into the net!. First goal from a header for a while and guess what, The coaches had said at the beginning of the game, that whoever scores with their head or from outside the box gets a tenner. ! Hannah ran back to the half way line shouting to the sides, thats my tenner!!!
But more importantly, Churt now had a 2 goal lead, 2-0 after 63 minutes.
They managed to see the game out safely , still dominating and also ending up with a clean sheet.
The whole squad played together for each other once again, and put themselves back on top of the table. Now its over to the other teams to play out their remaining fixtures until the 14th May, but the Satelittes did themselves proud and couldnt do anymore. They won their final 7 games of the season, fighting for each other and playing as a team. Tilly and the defence keeping the ball out of the net (literally), Emily, Liv, Phoebe, Martha, Lily, winning midfield battles all over the pitch and providing the ammunition for the forwards to score. Player of the Match could have been anyone, but it went to Maisie Lambert this time!.
Brilliant season Churt, lets see if we finish second or first!
Over to you Beacon Hill!
