The Satellites arrived at the game, equal on points with Beacon Hill and 5 points ahead of Walton Cobra Reds, but both those teams have a game in hand, so today's result would really be one that starts to shape the 1st to 3rd spots in the league.
The game started and both Hannah Watts and Ella Farrier had a half chance each, Hannah hitting the side netting which made the coaches celebrate in error and Ella's effort being saved by the Keeper. Walton also had a couple of close chances, so it was pretty even back and forth and a big battle to win the ball in midfield.
Churt continued to have chances but just couldn't put any away, then on the 31st minute a goal mouth scramble in the Churt box resulted in the ball going in the back of the next, one Walton player was down injured and no one was sure what was going on, but a goal was awarded to Walton, who took a 1-0 lead.against the run of the play.
Churt kicked off and within minutes, Ruby Clarke was running down the left hand side and played a great ball into Hannah, who shot passed the keeper and it was back to level terms, 1-1. Shortly after the half time whistle was blown.
In the second half, it was again a close battle, Churt again slightly on top and on the 41st minute, Amy Thompson, now playing as right wing attack (First half she was centre back), swung in a ball to the middle. Hannah Watts, steady the ball, turned and hammered it home for her second of the day. 2-1 Churt.
On the 48th minute, Walton committed a foul throw but the referee allowed them to take it again. It looked a little like another foul throw but the game carried on, and eventually the ball found its way to the Churt 6 yard box, a mis communication between Keeper and defenders meant somehow the ball was in the back of the Churt net again. 2-2. Which was not a reflection of the game really, but Churt picked themselves up and went again.
There was alot of strong challenges, sometimes missed by the referee and also some going down from the opposition to waste time, something we don't see much of in the Ladies game, but eventually Hannah Watts was brought down in the box by two Walton players, She stepped up to take the penalty herself and OH NO ,just passed the post. It was not looking like Churt's day.
They carried on, and two minutes later, Hannah had her hat trick and the ball in the back of the net again. Again a great cross from Amy Thompson which Hannah volleyed home.
The coach took of Hannah and was supposed to take of Emily too, but suddenly noticed sitting at the side was Hannah and Ella, but we decided to keep it that way, so we had 3 at the back, 5 in the midfield and then almost 1 AM and 1 St.
Amy O'Donnell came on as Striker and had a brilliant 10 minutes holding the ball off and laying off to others.
On the 65th minute, The battling Phoebe Mitchell crossed the ball after Liv Potter had won it and there was Ruby Clarke to finish another great move. 4-2 Churt and now the score reflected more of the game.
For the last 5 minutes Amy Thompson moved to right Back so we were playing 4-5-1 and seeing out the game. From that point it never looked like changing and eventually Churt won the game 4-2.
What a performance from the girls who really made the second half count. Really great team performance. Woman of the match going to Ella Farrier, who runs all day for the team, creating chances!. Special mention to Hannah Watts, who was feeling sick in the morning but still played and got another Hat - Trick. Hannah and Ella hitting form at the right time. Brilliant play from all the others too, Phoebe running all day as normal. The defence pretty much on top of things apart from a couple of scrambles. Tilly holding goal well. And the midfield really playing well too.
A top win from a top team. Well done Satellites you can have an Easter break!
