Churt an Mole Valley arrived at Meadowbank Stadium, the ground of Dorking Wanderers, sitting in 3rd and 4th place in the table, so we knew it would be a close game.
Churt were missing important players, Maisie Lambert, Amy Recker and Tia Eldridge, and during the warm up, Emily Watts suffered a back injury but opted to start, unfortunately having to come off after a couple of minutes, to be replaced by Lily Jay.
The game continued and both teams were battling hard in midfield with Mole Valley pinning Churt back a bit at the beginning. Eventually Churt started to work their way into the game and had a couple of good moves with Hannah Watts and Ella Farrier coming close to scoring, but not quite.
In the 13th minute, Mole Valley broke through the Churt defence, and Churt goalkeeper, Tilly Carr came out and made a great block, and also got clattered in the face, resulting in a few minutes stoppage and a big nose bleed. Both teams regrouped and Tilly was ok to play on.
Martha Pittman also felt a knock, so she came off and Amy O' Donnell came off the bench into the right wing back position. Both teams were still battling hard but Churt's were the more clear cut, they just couldnt beat the keeper. One move resulted in Ella Farrier being put through by a great move between Ruby Clark and Hannah Watts, but Ellas shot and it skimmed so close to the far post. Still 0-0 and thats how the game finished at Half Time.
At Half time Martha Pittman came back on again for Lily Jay, and went into Midfield, Within a couple of minutes, Amy O'Donnell was breaking down the right, playing as a make shift right wing back, but showing how effective her speed can be, she made a long run and also put in a great ball for Ella Farrier to follow up and put past the keeper. Churt had the breakthrough 1-0!
Churt were now on top for a bit and had a few more chances, but soon Mole Valley started to dominate the midfield and had a few chances themselves, some stopped well by Tilly, others just missing the post, but the Churt defence and defensive Midfield were playing well and battling for everything.
With 5 minutes to go, A Churt Goalkick went straight to a Mole Valley player, and the player wasn't challenged, probably the only mistake of he whole game from Churt, and eventually a looping shot was put in, and there was no way Tilly was saving that. 65 mins Mole Valley 1 Churt 1.
Grrr, now the game was looking like a draw and both teams continued to battle. Hannah Watts breaking through at one point but only to be intercepted at the last minute.
With a minute to go, after being pressed back for a bit, The Churt midfield won the ball back and Ruby Clark and Martha Pittman combined well with a pass out to Amy O'Donnell. Again she sprinted down the wing and beat a defender, looping in a cross which was slightly behind the Churt strikers, but Ruby Clark was coming in from the midfield, so she told the strikers to leave it and smacked the ball into the net from 18 yards. 2-1 with a minute to go. Churt never give up.
The Coaches shouted, "Now get everyone behind the ball and defend the lead", and they did, winning a well fought game from both sides. Churt walking wounded with a win in the end and Mole Valley, narrowly beaten but a great performance too.
Woman of the match was Amy Thompson, who filled in at Centre back and played really well. Not only defending with confidence but also knocking the ball forward into the path of her forwards Ala "Alexander Arnold". What a game Amy.!!. Pretty much all the team played their socks off, Amy O'Donnell, also playing out of position but providing two assists, and Pheobe Mitchell, also out of position at Left Wing Back, but a great performance!
Well done girls!! This performance made the coaches and parents proud!
