The Satellites continued their unbeaten start to the season with a hard fought 2-2 draw against their arch rivals Beacon Hill today.
The first half finished 0-0 with Beacon Hill having slightly more of the chances. Tilly Carr, in the Satellites goal, had a tremendous half making a number of vital saves, the highlight coming in the 20th minute when she saved a low shot that was heading for the bottom left of the goal. Beacon Hill also had a number long range efforts that Tilly handled with ease despite the ball skidding off the surface. The Satellites midfield of Martha Pittman, Liv Potter and Amy Thompson did well to press and limit the amount of time the Beacon Hill players had on the ball. The Satellites had a number of chances of their own with Lily Jay, Phoebe Mitchell and Maisie Lambert all doing well to create chances for the team.
The Satellites opened the scoring almost immediately in the 2nd half. Ella Farrier turned a player in the box and then hit a wonderful shot into the top right hand corner of the goal. Beacon Hill responded well, and the Satellites came under renewed pressure. In the 43rd minute, following a prolonged goal mouth scramble, the ball was only partially cleared from the Churt penalty box and Beacon Hill scored from a shot from the edge of the box; Tilly made a valiant effort to tip it over the bar but to no avail. Both teams continued to create further chances, with the Satellite failing to get on the end of number of crosses. The defence of Tallula Musgrove, Isobel Kandak and Emily Watts, continued to perform heroics, the highlight being a goal line clearance by Emily on the 45th minute. Eventually the Satellites conceded a 2nd goal in the 60th minute with Beacon Hill converting after a nicely worked move on the counter attack; the initial shot hit the woodwork but the Satellites were unable to stop the rebound being headed in. However, the Satellites refused to give up with Ruby Clark and Amy O'Donnell doing well to create further chances for the team. On the 68th minute Hannah Watts picked up the ball at the edge of the box and hit a lovely low shot into the bottom corner of the goal!
The Satellites fully deserved a draw from this game, against a very strong Beacon Hill team. The game was played in the right spirit; although physical there were no bad challenges from either team.
