The teams arrived at the game, with Churt in 3rd place, in the table, and Mole Valley in 5th, so we were expecting a close game.
Churt were also missing 3 key players, including main goalkeeper, Tilly Carr, and one of the back up keepers and strong outfield player, Ella Farrier, as well as Combative midfielder, Holly Donati.
The game started with a competitive first 15 minutes, with Churt making most of the attacks but some resolute defending by Mole Valley kept them out. Tallula Musgrove started in goal for Churt, stepping up to take the role in the first half.
On the 18th minute, Maisie Lambert broke down the left and got the ball through to Hannah Watts, who nicked it pass the tackling defender and went through on goal and scored. Churt make the breakthrough and lead 1-0.
On the 23rd minute, Churt won a corner and Maisie Lambert floats in a great cross to the near post. Hannah Watts gets her head on it and it hits a Mole valley player in the face, Hannah Watts was the first to react and struck the ball home from the near post. 2-0 To Churt.
On 29th minute, Churt win another corner on the right. Maisie Lambert steps up to take it again and this time she needed no help from her forwards, as the ball curled straight in. So 3-0 to Churt as the teams came in at half time. (Now Maisie and Ella Farrier have both scored direct from corners this season, whose going to take them next week :)))) )
At half time, Tallula came out of goal and Maisie Lambert took her turn between the posts. Amy O went back to Left Wing Back, in place of Maisie, and Emily Watts took a rest, whilst Tallula replaced her In defence.
Mole Valley came out stronger in the second half and both teams created a few chances without scoring. Maisie Lambert in goal, made a couple of good saves to keep Mole Valley out. Then on the 41st minute, Mole Valley got a goal back from a good strike on goal. The Churt defence were caught napping, after a substitution, and a quick throw, but gathered themselves after the goal, regrouped and started again.
On 40 minutes, Emily Watts came back on the pitch in Midfield, taking the place of Lily and Amy Recker moved up front.
Churt had a couple of consecutive corners, which Amy Thompson took as Maisie was in goal. On the 44th minute, the second corner was a great delivery and beat a few players at the near post, landing perfectly for Amy Recker to strike into the goal from close range. Actually a great finish as it was quite high and the girls celebrated a 4th goal of the day, Amy Recker's first goal for Churt and getting back on top in the game.
Maisie Lambert came off and Lily Jay took her turn in goal. Soon after the change, there was another lapse in concentration in the Churt defence, where Mole Valley took a quick corner, and with no Churt player anticipating it, Mole Valley swung in a cross which came back out to the Mole Valley midfielder, who looped a long shot over the goalkeeper. 4 - 2 to Churt and Mole Valley were rallying a bit, a similar shot came in again but this time Lily Jay saved it well. She also made another important save shortly after, both very important saves as Mole Valley had a period of domination which could have changed the game without those saves.
Maisie Lambert came back on at Left wing back, with Amy Recker taking a well earned rest and Amy O'Donnell moving up front.
All of a sudden, Emily Watts started to win everything in midfield as she got used to her new position and Amy O supporting Hannah upfront made a lot of difference. Suddenly Churt were back on top and they took advantage of that with Emily Watts winning the ball in the middle, passing the ball out to Amy Thompson on the right, who made a first time pass forward to Hannah Watts on the edge of the area. Hannah again hit it first time as she saw the keeper off her line and that completed her hat trick. Some great football from Churt this week but that was probably the best move of the game.
3 minutes later, Maisie Lambert poked the ball forward to Hannah again, she beat one defender and shot from the edge of the penalty area for her fourth goal of the match, securing the win for Churt and a Woman of the match performance for her four goals.
It's always hard to choose a Woman of the Match with a performance like this, but Hannah's 4 goals just pipped Maisie, with her 3 assists and a goal from a corner, Amy Thompson with 2 assists, Amy Recker with her first goal for Churt, three goalkeepers making crucial saves and taking a turn for the team, along with the combative midfield of Liv Potter and Amy O and Isobel Kandak in defence. Emily Watts also played well in defence in the first half, keeping a clean sheet with Isobel, and then in the second half, once she was used to her new position, making a difference with some great tackling and driving forward.
All in all, a great team performance from Churt and a good game with the opposition.
Big thanks to Mole Valley and the referee, Tom Elliott, who made it a great, competitive and flowing game of football.
