Greig Watts21 Nov 2021 - 18:14

Satellites pinch a narrow win.

Churt arrived at the game, missing 4 players, Emily Watts with injury and Amy Thompson, Maisie Lambert and Holly Donati not able to play, so they started with a different formation to accommodate the 9 players they had available.

The two teams played out a bitty first Half, both teams creating half chances, but nothing concrete until Claygate broke through and scored on the 28th minute. The teams went in at half time with Claygate leading 1-0.
In the second half, Churt came out much stronger and started to dominate the attacks with Hannah Watts and Ella Farrier combining well up front. On the 40th minute, Amy O'Donnell battled for the ball and made a great pass down the left, Ella Farrier went past her defender and was running into the box where she took a hard shot. The goalkeeper parried the ball and Hannah Watts pounced to put the ball away in the net. The score was now 1-1 and Churt continued to dominate the possession.

Another attack resulted in a corner. Ella Farrier took the corner and scored directly from it with a great curling effort that the goalkeeper couldn't keep out. Both teams continued to battle in midfield and create half chances, but the Churt defence with Isobel Kandak and Tallula Musgrove started to look rock solid and in control. Amy O'Donnell was also putting in a great performance now at Left Midfield and her efforts resulted in her winning the Woman of the Match Award. In the last minute of the game, Claygate had a couple of corners that were kept out by the Churt defence and the game finished 2-1 to the home team. The first half performance was not the best we've seen from Churt but they much improved In the second half to take the win and take advantage of the other teams at the top not playing. Churt move back into third in the table.
