Both teams arrived having agreed to play an 8 v 8 game as the season continues with injury's, Covid and unavailability. But from the start it was a real battle. In the third minute a strong challenge forced one of the Churt players to be subbed off but also a goal for Walton came straight after the tackle while the Churt player was down. Both teams continued to battle and make chances, Walton having the better of the first stages and scoring a second goal on 13 minutes, This was a fantastically taken shot from outside the penalty area which went straight in the corner. Any premiership or WSL player would be proud of that one. 2 - 0 to Walton.
Churt picked their heads up and started to get the ball to the forwards more and on 16 minutes after a couple of interceptions at the back, Emily Watts played a great forward ball to Lily Jay who passed the ball quickly for Ella Farrier to score. Within 4 minutes Churt scored again, this time some great movement and play between Ella Farrier (assist) and Amy O'Donnell (goal). There was one more beautiful move from Churt, with a great through pass from Lily Jay up to Ella Farrier, who nicked the ball passed the keeper and it just went passed the post. Almost!!
At half time the teams went in 2-2 and that was a fair result so far.
The second half started much the same and both teams created half chances, but also defended strongly to keep the attackers at bay. Several corners from either team came to nothing, but eventually on the 42nd minute, Walton whipped in a corner which Churt failed to clear, in fact the ball bounced around like a ping pong and eventually a Walton attacker got a foot on it and scored. It was now 2-3 and both teams continued to battle until the end but started to look weary. No more goals were scored and the game ended up as Churt's first loss of the season, 2-3. A hard fought battle between two strong teams that will be there and thereabouts in a tough Division 1.
